Massachusetts Ranks Poorly in Survey of Helping Neighbors

"the study ranked Massachusetts 46th among Americans who self-reported helping their neighbors at least a few times a week." In Massachsuetts, especially in Cambridge, individuals are discouraged from helping neighbors. Competition rules in university dominated towns. Taxpayer funded human services agencies whose mission is to help vulnerable citizens do not respond to requests for help. Police determine who gets help and who they are allowed to abuse directly or by employing criminal surrogates. Much of the abuse is done by the local equivalent of James Bulger (on trial in Boston US Court for 19 homicides while working as an) FBI informant. He murdered civilians who dared to complain about his crimes to the FBI. In Cambridge local police agencies run their own teams of (crime family) sociopaths who attack vulnerable citizens on behalf of police and as favors to police patrons. This is surprising to transients at the universities who come and go. They know little of what transpires among government agencies and their college clown campus cops.

Here's a charming gentleman with 26 prior arrests, who was not under surveillance by any police agency or organized crime. But I am of such concern to the local police, the crime family that runs Massachusetts and the FBI that they keep me under 24/7 surveillance. Bad enough? Not for them. Using students and custodians at Harvard University they also harass me every day and every night disturbing my sleep every hour or two hours. They try to cause me to have a heart attack and a stroke. They stir up racial animosity and scare people telling everyone I have a disability, then use that as an excuse to harass me. They threaten me. They provoke me. They use young women as bait. It is now 40 years of such abuses beginning when I was a student at Columbia University. Is there any wonder why there is so much corruption and crime in this country? The police waste taxpayer funds harassing harmless individuals to cover up criminal abuses of their colleagues.

Merging Psychiatry and Crime

This brief article raises many issues about psychiatry, police and journalism. Psychiatric hospitals have notoriously lax security. In some cases the employees encourage patients to escape so that they can punish them or report them to police.

Police descriptions of persons with disabilities are notoriously frightening and misleading. Reports by journalists encourage police to think of persons with disabilities as dangerous and to treat them as if they are, beating them unnecessarily.

This report promotes the idea that all persons who accused of being psychotic are criminals. It is a pervasive belief promoted by journalists and the psychiatric industry that mental patients are criminals. The psychiatric and drug industries advocate merging psychiatry and crime. Saying a person "can be extremely violent" applies to all people, not just those accused of being psychotic. Crime must be kept separate from psychiatry. This man violated the law and needs to pay for what he did. Using psychiatry to mitigate criminal behavior is a corruption of the criminal justice system.

Obsessed Researchers Test Blood For Emotions

The psychiatric industry continues to medicalize human emotions. How can a human emotion be an illness, except for business purposes? The antidote to depression is adding love, friends, ice cream, candy, cake and maybe some Marx Brothers movies. The drug industry prefers that people take anti depressants known to cause violence. Even the drug-company-controlled FDA requires warnings on those drugs. Obsessed researchers should leave people alone to enjoy their lives and teach people how to appreciate emotions and not let emotions rule their actions. Psychiatry must be recognized for the boondoggle fantasy it is.

The psychiatric industry spent millions on media campaigns to create the notion of a chemical imbalance in the brain as a basis for mental illness. But they do no chemical test of brain matter. Moreover there is no chemical balance of the brain to measure against. It is all fantasy to promote drug treatment for the drug industry. You may believe it but it is not based in any science. Mental illnesses are made up from consensus not science. See e.g. Boston University's Professor Margaret Hagen's Whores of the Court. Psychiatry is personal opinion masquerading as science. Read about fake illnesses and their fantasy chemical imbalance. The American Psychiatric Association was unable to provide evidence of any chemical imbalance when challenged by critics a few years ago. Fake illnesses that charlatans create each year is to increase their client base. Mental illnesses have no pathology. Only psychiatrists can see them.

Cambridge City Council policy order on public meetings and technology may merit reconsideration. The City Manager purchased new wireless microphones for the Planning Board Meetings at the Broadway Annex building.
The members of the Planning Board sometimes don't use them. In some cases they do not turn them on. In other cases they speak so low that even with the microphones you still cannot hear them. The PB volunteers are not trained properly in using the expensive equipment, SONY with each mic costing over $90 plus the transmitting amplifier.

Will having more expensive technology available be any different? When I used to video tape the meetings, allowed under the open meetings law, some of the PB members complained worried that what they said would be recorded. Some of the board and commission members do not want their actions available to be seen by too many people. One of them may understand what they are doing.

The Zoning Board hearings have no loud speakers even though all it takes is to ask the city electric department to set them up for the meetings. Citizens who attend them cannot hear what is said at the table. The discussion is recorded on audio tape for which it is very expensive to get a transcript.

The City has about 50 computers at the seven libraries for public use, and more at the Senior Center. None of them are Apple computers. I asked the previous chief reference librarian to get one Apple computer. He explained that maintenance of Apple computers is expensive. One other librarian explained that the PC is the city standard. There are a citizens who use Apple equipment and cannot use the public equipment to access some of their data.

When the City had an agreement with Cablevision one element was to make some of the city buildings where public meetings were held wired for broadcasting on the City cable station Channel 8. But that was never done. When the city transferred the license to Comcast that provision was ignored and maybe removed. If all city meetings were broadcast it would make the city's proceedings more accessible. But that may have to wait until there is a new more open minded city manager.

What It means To Be Human, Book Review

Joanna Bourke's new book is "What It means To Be Human." On Page 68, she discusses Peter Singer's observation on animals feeling pain. He says, "Whether or not dogs and pigs are persons, they can certainly feel pain and suffer in a variety of ways, and or concern for their suffering should not depend on how rational and self-aware they might be."

Wouldn't that same description apply as well to human children up to six months old? Peter Singer advocates allowing parents of children born with severe disabilities to kill their children in the name of "increasing happiness" in the world. Are we to believe that the child does not suffer pain, if he or she is killed humanely?

On page 69 Bourke says "this philosophical approach is called 'preference utilitarianism.' Ethical behavior must arise from a consideration of the greatest satisfaction of desires or preferences. The morally correct action is that which produces the most favorable consequences for those involved."

How does that apply to the children up to six months of age that may be killed to make the world a "happier" place? Are the dead children happier too? The above argument ('preference utilitarianism') could be applied to any minority that decreases the "happiness" of the majority.

On page 67 Bourke says quoting the 'Ernest Englishwoman,' "If women were allowed to become animal in law, then their status and wellbeing would improve."

That same argument can still be applied to men and women in the USA today. When scientists use human subjects for experimentation (medical research) they must comply with the laws on such activities. US law requires consent, and some restrictions. But if the researchers do not comply with the laws there are no penalties. Title 45 Section 46 Code of Federal Regulations.

The (US) Animal Welfare Act of 1966 provides prison and fines for non compliance when animals are used for research. So again, or still, animals have greater legal protections than humans. In this case women are treated equally to men.

The City of Cambridge MA USA has an animal research officer to make certain that animals are protected. But humans are not under her jurisdiction. There is no human subject research officer for the City. Once again animals have greater legal protections than human women and men.

In Cambridge MA, host city to Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Lesley University, residents believe they are superior to anyone who disagrees with them. Diverse opinions are not tolerated. The Cambridge School Committee approved eliminating special advance classes in the middle schools. Mindless zombie elitists demand everyone learn at the same speed. Duh! Are students encouraged to weigh more or less than others in the name of diversity too? Quick learners will be forced to waste time and alienated from the learning process. Slow learners will harass classmates because, "You're smart." One student noted they will be forced to help their slower classmates. It is one more example of how the beasts in Cambridge drag everyone down to their level. Even if you accept the anomaly that the US Government should be involved with education, this man's comments are howlers. "Duncan said that support services are not enough to bridge the achievement gap and that the quality of schools themselves must be improved." Will public schools provide young men and women with parents if they live in single parent homes? Having two parents, one of each sex is a major factor in a child's success in schools. Why is this fact never discussed by the Ed School or in this majestic education czar's offices? "Duncan said that wraparound programs, which target students’ general quality of life, are an important way to improve standards of education, especially in poverty stricken areas." Oh, and why are "poverty stricken areas" the focus? Intelligent children in loving homes with parents with little material wealth who support education thrive in public schools. Some children from wealthy areas are terrible students and learn little. The major factor is not material wealth but the kind of parents children have. Will Mr. Duncan propose that schools provide loving parents who support education? Will he remove children from homes without that kind of parent(s)? What do DC bureaucrats know about local schools that parents and teachers do not know? Can a system proposed by a DC bureaucrat cover all situations in rich and poor areas, with all kinds of parents? Aren't there enough bureaucrats in each city who harm the learning process? Who needs more misguided over paid know-it-alls in DC to do more damage?

The idea of competence to stand trial has a very low threshold. The examination takes about 5 minutes by a trier of fact, usually the judge. But the psychiatric industry made competency evaluations into a multi million dollar industry in each state. Competency in Arizona is defined by statute: Arizona Revised Statutes - Title 13 Criminal Code - Section 13-4501 Definitions "'Incompetent to stand trial' means that as a result of a mental illness, defect or disability a defendant is unable to understand the nature and object of the proceeding or to assist in the defendant's defense." It is different from the use of mental illness as a defense to a criminal charge. That is a different standard, which is not knowing the difference between right and wrong, that the act was wrong due to a mental illness. It has to do with the American notion of what a crime is. The US system of justice defines crime as an act (actus reus) and knowing the act is wrong (mens rea). To think that this young man who was capable of purchasing weapons, knowing where the political gathering was and shooting at the group of people does not know what a court is or a lawyer, stretches the imagination beyond reason. It makes sense if the court is using the procedure for wasting taxpayer funds.

Cameras on public streets, monitoring of internet and social media online, and technological invasive surveillance of homes of individual citizens is ignored by the FBI. When it comes to extending control over vulnerable citizens the FBI and police always find threats to their total control of American citizens. The idea of limited government was to curb the natural tendency of government bureaucrats to exercise total control over citizens' lives. With the current levels of technological surveillance of legal activities there is no limit among government bureaucrats of information that the FBI is collecting about citizens. Now they try to scare law abiding citizens about two shooting incidents. It easier to find numerous incidents of police abuses of power. But the control freaks among journalists refuse to present an even report. The Constitution was written to curb government power not to curb freedom. This article has it exactly backwards.

Here's the problem with giving government especially police any more power. The argument made by the founders of TASER Corporation is that their TASER (stun gun) is a humane alternative to deadly force. It is a rational argument. But when police, who claim to be human, get a new source of force they can use on civilians they use it whenever they get the chance. Hey, if it don't kill why not? Look at how much fun it is. But it does kill. for people, with weak cardio pulmonary systems. Beyond that potential where is the need for deadly force for a woman who acts belligerently and is accused of trespass? That is the argument against stun guns. They are one more piece of equipment that police can abuse having fun watching people twist and turn on the ground. This abuse must end.

The Phoenix Explains MA Criminal Justice

This essay would be more believable if some experts in criminal justice were quoted. The essay is mere speculation by a political writer, typical hot air which passes for constructive criticism. More importantly the most egregious abuses currently in prisons are psychiatric abuses. There is no mention of psychiatry in this essay.

Bernstein says, "wherever the Massachusetts State Legislature gets its fingers into the criminal-justice system, the results are not pretty." He does not mention any reason why. Is part of the reason for this that most legislators are lawyers with a financial interest in criminal justice laws?

Bernstein adds, "the probation scandal, [exposed] how little the legislature cared about actual performance or results in criminal-justice agencies, as long as their own personal interests were met." That is a pervasive problem with all laws; not just at the state level, and not just about criminal justice. It is true about all laws written. MA General Court used to have a Post Audit Committee to study how laws were working. I never got any response from that committee when I revealed to it some of the counter productive abuses in other areas.

Bernstein exhibits the arrogance of Harvard scholars when he says, "Much like climate-change deniers, lawmakers refuse to accept the overwhelming body of research and best practices that show the benefits of a more thoughtful, evidence-based reform in criminal justice." It sounds nice, but what does it mean? Many climate change deniers are respected in their academic institutions. How does that equate with the reluctance of politicians to fix a system they created? Has science become politicized as badly as the criminal justice system?

He asks for "less reliance on punitive mass incarceration, and more focus on rehabilitation, treatment, and supervision." Each of these have serious arguments for and against. He states his conclusion without any argument no less evidence for it.

One curious statement without substantiation is that "There had been considerable optimism that Patrick would put Massachusetts on the road to reform." The reform train left the state house when Mitt Romney left. He stood up to the legislature vetoing 300 bills one year. The legislature over rode 299 of them. Romney actually stood up to William Bulger, former State Senate President, and President of the MA State University System. Gov. Romney threatened to appoint radio talk show host Howie Carr to the Board of Trustees of the University of Massachusetts system to get Bulger removed. Bulger said to Romney, "You wouldn't dare." Nonetheless Bulger did resign and now collects a state pension of over $200,000 per year. Not chicken feed.

Quoting a Patrick "insider," Bernstein reports he said,"When the legislators start talking about these issues, they automatically think about it as 'soft on crime,'" Isn't that a function of spinelessness of elected officials, what some journalists call the herd mentality? Is it like the fear of being called a racist, or a homophobe?

Andrea Cabral, appointed by Republican Governor Jane Swift then immediately changed her party affiliation to Democratic, says, "it's an absolute fact that the way it works now is simply unsustainable from a financial perspective." Yet no mention of the unusally high cost of psychiatric industry programs that are a waste of taxpayer funds.

Bernstein calls the legislature's mentality "Neanderthal." Neanderthal man is extinct. They did not have language nor a system of criminal justice. A more appropriate term to show ignorance or ancient opinions would be to call the legislature Medieval.

A remarkable statement is, "the state's citizenry is far more reform-minded than its elected officials." Bernstein provides no evidence for that sweeping conclusion. In Cambridge which prides itself on being progressive the citizens are very happy with the way things are. They do not care about reform, corruption, high taxes, waste of taxpayer funds. They are only interested in the value of their homes. If Cambridge residents lead the way, the belief that citizens are reform minded is extremely misguided.

The upbeat statement that "CORI reform was significant." is not explained. Is it the fact that any reform is significant? Or that the reform of CORI was a significant reform? No details are provided nor any link to what was done.

His conclusion of fearmongering is what the legislature does best explaining "the massive expense and threat to public safety that the current system represents." Eliminating psychiatric services from the prison system will reduce a large expense that has no place in the jails.

Police are likely to shoot dead any person they fear who refuses to obey their commands. They seldom make any distinction between persons with disabilities and other persons. Feeling threatened does not make distinctions. Unmentioned is the role of any psychiatric drugs this teen may have been ingesting. They do have a causal connection to violence.

If it was an accident why was the agent disciplined? In the months leading to the murder of President Kennedy in November 1963, some men told the FBI at more than one office that there was a plan to kill the president. They all were ignored because the agents believed they were mentally ill, or had a history of mental illness which is worse. MA state police ignore complaints about crimes from persons they believe are mentally lll, because "they are not reliable," as one Trooper at headquarters told me. That implies that "normal" people do not lie. Ahem! So if the agent did not disconnect the call for whatever reason three men would still be alive.

Dean Hammonds "lauded King’s message of establishing a 'beloved community' based on brotherhood, love, and justice." One problem with disagreements is the definition of words. What is meant by "justice" for example? Does it mean giving rewards to individuals who did not earn them? Does it mean punishing individuals who did no wrong? Why is MLK Jr.'s dream of judging people on the basis of their character not their skin color, ignored by black politicians and academics? Greedy Cambridge politicians demand that 30 percent of public school employees should be black. Hammonds had no comment. "Hammonds added that Harvard is one of the most diverse communities in the world." At the same time Harvard is the most intolerant of diverse opinions. Is Harvard more diverse than New York City? Last month the Harvard Faculty voted to delete courses of a professor whose opinions they disliked, calling it hate speech. Hammonds had no comment. "Hammonds said it is the College’s responsibility to teach students 'how to respectfully disagree.'" In that the College has failed miserably. Try suggesting on campus that Affirmative Action is a government abomination discriminating based on race. How tolerant are Harvard affiliates to Republicans or to critics of Obama and Holder? How long does it take for Harvard students to call those with whom they disagree, racists without defining the term?

"IN A HORRIFIC assault in Center City on Saturday night, three teenagers who were spouting racial slurs pulled a man out of a cab to beat him. And when the cabdriver intervened to stop the assault, the teens turned their rage on him, police said yesterday.
About 8:25 p.m., a cab was stopped at a red light at 15th and Chestnut streets when two 17-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy approached and started calling the male passenger in the back seat racially derogatory names, police said."

This article was written from other sources. Were the sources spin doctors or dumb journalists fooled by spin doctors? Saying "a 'significant amount' of the money could have 'vaporized'" is nonsense. Money was moved from one account to another. If the money was lost due to a bad investment that can be shown. But to say it vaporized is just a way to cover up theft. Who is lying? The journalists or the PR flack?
