[From article]
Arias, 34, was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2013 in the brutal stabbing and shooting death of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander in 2008.
But the jury was unable to decide on what to sentence her to. So a second jury was called in for a penalty retrial. They also failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether to give her death or life in prison.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens will now sentence her April 13, and under Arizona law, only has the option of sentencing her to life in prison or a life term with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Family members of the victim wept when the judge said the second batch of jurors couldn’t reach a decision Thursday. They sobbed as they left the courtroom, with one covering her eyes as she walked out.

In the first trial, jurors and a TV audience heard gory details of how Arias stabbed and slashed Alexander nearly 30 times then left his body in his shower at his suburban Phoenix home, where friends found him about five days later.
Prosecutors said she shot him in the head and slit his throat so deeply that he was nearly decapitated.
She testified for 18 days at her first trial, describing her abusive childhood, cheating boyfriends, relationship with Alexander and her contention that he was physically abusive.
